Engineering Biofilms for Corrosion Prevention

Aerobic bacteria can form regenerative biofilms on mild steel, Aluminum and Brass that provide up to a 40-fold reduction in general corrosion rates. Such aerobic biofilms consume oxygen before the oxygen can reach the metal surface, decreasing the rate of corrosion.

What a great concept, wonder if these bacteria's can be genetically engineered to sit inside an engine without breaking down? Wouldn't need flushers anymore, hope its just science fiction!
